Good news for folks who don’t want to wait out the 1 year separation period before filing for a divorce in Maryland – The Maryland General Assembly has passed SB472 – Grounds for Divorce – Mutual Consent, which allows a divorce based on a signed settlement agreement, when there are no minor children in common.
This development greatly reduces the anxiety and stress on petitioners who have already come to a mutual agreement, thus allowing all parties to be able to move on with their lives and focus on the future . As a collaborative law professional, I think this change is a welcome change.
